The body of work is set to be released on the 28th of August, the project is filled with star-studded Maskandi features, including the young and talented Feza, the legendary female duo Izingani zoma, one of the biggest Maskandi artists Mthendeni, the musical genius Siya Ntuli. The project solidifies the artists’ commitment to celebrating and modernizing traditional Zulu music while bridging generational gaps. Maskandi has typically been a male dominated genre, with the ladies aiming to show that women are equally as talented and deserve the recognitional and approval of in genre. The album’s release date is strategically positioned to align with women’s month leading into heritage month.
The evening was elevated by the radiant presence of MC Ntombee Ngcobo-Mzolo, daughter of renowned and legendary artist “Ihashi Elimhlophe” who masterfully welcomed each artist to the stage with her signature grace and warmth, setting the tone for a night of cultural pride. Attendees were treated to an exclusive premiere of a documentary chronicling the making of the “Zulu Queens” phenomenon, offering a raw, behind-the-scenes look at Mawhoo and Lwah’s journey. Producers and executives, led by the visionary Leroy Khoza, took the stage to explain the project’s brainchild, detailing how the fusion of their distinct styles evolved into a cohesive, genre-defying album.
The night culminated in the announcement of their brand-new single, “Distance,” featuring the legendary, young, and talented Feza. The track is set to drop on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, and is already generating massive buzz across streaming platforms. Additionally, the duo confirmed that a nationwide tour is in the works, with official dates to be announced soon for later this year.
Mawhoo expressed her excitement: “This is more than an album; it is a movement. Lwah and I have always shared a deep love for our heritage, and bringing these incredible artists together, especially Feza and the legends, feels like we are building a bridge between the past and the future of Maskandi.
