Thousands of music lovers gathered at Huddle Park on Saturday, 1 August, for the inauguralScatterlings Music Festival, marking the successful debut of a new live music experience that celebrated South Africa’s rich musical heritage through the voices of today’s leading artists.
The festival followed the release of the highly anticipated Scatterlings album on Friday, 31 July, a collaborative project curated by Jesse Clegg and Msaki that sees some of South Africa’s most celebrated musicians reimagine the iconic songs of Johnny Clegg for a new generation.
Across one unforgettable day, fans were treated to performances from an extraordinary line-up including Zakes Bantwini, Sjava, Sun-El Musician, TRESOR, Msaki, Jesse Clegg, J’Something, MUZI, Simmy, Beatenberg, Sminofu, Zolani Mahola, and more. Alongside performing the reimagined songs featured on the Scatterlings album, each artist also brought their own chart-topping catalogue to the stage, creating a dynamic celebration of South African music that resonated with audiences of all ages.
