McDonald’s South Africa is commemorating Mandela Day by bringing together employees, Owner-Operators and community partners to support initiatives focused on food security and youth development.
In partnership with local non-profit organisations, McDonald’s employees are helping pack 5,000 food parcels that will reach approximately 20,000 people across Johannesburg,
Durban and Cape Town. To support the initiative, McDonald’s South Africa has made a cash donation of R150,000.
The company is also supporting the Nelson Mandela Diepsloot Soccer Tournament alongside its Owner-Operators through a contribution valued at R250,000, which includes soccer kits, footballs and meals for participants. The company is also supporting the initative by sponsoring coaching courses for the coaching staff, and a job a readiness wotrkshop for the young people in the community. Hosted by the Diepsloot Sport Forum, the tournament will
bring together approximately 1,000 children from U10 to U16 age groups and is made
possible by the dedication of 20 volunteer coaches and referees who give their time every
weekend to coach young players and organise community tournaments.
Millicent Maroga, Impact Director at McDonald’s South Africa, said, “Mandela Day is a
powerful reminder that meaningful change happens when people come together in service of
others. With more than 15,000 employees across South Africa, we are proud to support
communities through both hands-on volunteerism and strategic partnerships”.
These initiatives reflect McDonald’s South Africa’s ongoing commitment to creating positive
impact beyond its restaurants by working with employees, franchisees and community
organisations to help build stronger, more resilient communities.
