The SPAR Group has voluntarily initiated a precautionary recall of approximately 4000 cases of SPAR brand yoghurt products following the identification of a production-related quality issue at the supplier. The affected products were immediately removed from sale and stores.
This voluntary recall is a quality-related recall and is not associated with a food safety concern. There is no evidence of a health risk to consumers.
Some affected products may show signs of spoilage, including swollen packaging or changes in taste, smell or appearance. Customers who have purchased any of the 11 affected products with a ‘Sell By date of 09/08/2026 and a Use By date of 12/08/2026 are encouraged to return them to their nearest SPAR store for a full refund or exchange, with or without proof of purchase.
SPAR does not manufacture its private label yoghurt products. The issue was identified through SPAR’s quality assurance processes in collaboration with the supplier.
SPAR notified the relevant authorities as soon as the issue was identified and is working closely with the National Consumer Commission (NCC) and the supplier to ensure the recall is implemented efficiently and responsibly.
Although the issue does not present a food safety concern, the affected products do not meet SPAR’s stringent quality standards. This voluntary recall reflects our commitment to acting swiftly, transparently and responsibly whenever a product falls short of those standards, ensuring customer confidence in our products. The health and safety of our shoppers remain our highest priority, and while incidents of this nature are rare, we believe taking proactive action is the right thing to do.
SPAR apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks consumers for their understanding and cooperation.
