Chinese Ambassador to South Africa, His Excellency Wu Peng, attended the 6th Limpopo Investment Conference held at The Ranch Resort in Polokwane on Thursday, 15 October 2026, as government leaders, investors and business representatives gathered to explore opportunities to accelerate economic growth and job creation.

The ambassador’s attendance was confirmed in the official keynote address delivered by Deputy President Paul Mashatile, which listed Ambassador Wu Peng among the distinguished guests at the conference. The event was hosted by the Limpopo Provincial Government, with the Limpopo Economic Development Agency (LEDA) serving as the lead agency.

Held under the theme “From Pledges to Progress: Accelerating Implementation and Unlocking Investment in Limpopo,” the conference focused on turning investment commitments into operational projects that can strengthen local industries, create employment and improve the livelihoods of communities.

The conference brought together provincial and local government leaders, investors, development finance institutions, business leaders and members of the diplomatic corps. Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba and Deputy President Mashatile were among the senior government leaders participating in the gathering.

China’s representation at the conference highlights the importance of international partnerships and diplomatic engagement in discussions about investment and economic development. China and South Africa have established economic and diplomatic ties, providing a foundation for cooperation in areas such as trade, infrastructure, manufacturing and industrial development.

However, the ambassador’s attendance alone does not confirm a new Chinese investment pledge or a specific financial commitment to Limpopo. Any new investment announcement would need to be confirmed by the relevant authorities or participating companies.

Addressing the conference, Deputy President Mashatile highlighted Limpopo’s investment potential, pointing to its mineral resources, agricultural land, strategic location and opportunities in sectors including mining and mineral beneficiation, agro-processing, manufacturing, logistics and renewable energy.

According to the Deputy President’s address, Limpopo recorded cumulative investment pledges of R452.38 billion between 2021 and 2025. Of this amount, R71.058 billion had been realised, contributing to the creation of 23,968 jobs.

The conference also placed emphasis on removing barriers that delay projects and ensuring that announced commitments translate into tangible economic benefits.

Another key development was the launch of the InvestSA One Stop Shop in Limpopo. The facility is intended to help investors navigate government processes, access support services and address administrative challenges that can delay investment projects.

For Limpopo, the challenge now is to turn investment interest into sustainable businesses, expanded economic activity and employment opportunities for its residents.

The presence of Ambassador Wu Peng added an international dimension to the discussions, reinforcing the role of diplomatic engagement in connecting South Africa’s provinces with potential global investment partners.

As the province continues to pursue new investment, the focus will remain on implementation, accountability and partnerships that deliver measurable benefits to local communities.
