One pink cap among every 12 bottles: SPAR and Cancervive make a breast cancer statistic impossible to overlook.
Shoppers visiting SPAR stores from 1-31 October may notice something different in the bottled-water aisle. Among the familiar white caps on SPAR 500ml Still Water bottles, one in every 12 will be pink, representing the statistic that one in 12 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime. Behind that number are people we know and love: mothers, sisters, daughters, friends and colleagues.
The initiative forms part of SPAR’s annual Cancer Awareness Month CSI initiative with Cancervive, bringing the statistic into everyday life through a familiar product. Throughout October 2026, every purchase of SPAR 500ml Still Water will contribute to Cancervive’s cancer awareness, education and community support initiatives. Whether the cap is pink or white, every bottle translates into a donation to Cancervive.
“For many people, cancer can feel very distant until the disease affects someone they love,” says Mpudi Maubane, Head: PR, Communications & Sponsorship at The SPAR Group. “The pink cap brings that reality into an everyday moment, giving shoppers a reason to pause and a simple way to support the amazing work Cancervive does in communities across South Africa.”
Cancervive uses the experiences and voices of cancer survivors to educate communities, encourage early detection and help people understand that support is available.
“Awareness can help people recognise changes in their bodies, seek medical advice and have conversations they may otherwise avoid,” says CEO and founder of Cancervive, Marlene Notje. “Partnering with SPAR allows us to bring the message into everyday spaces and remind people that nobody should face cancer alone.”
How to take part:
- Purchase SPAR 500ml Still Water at participating SPAR stores or on the SPAR2U app from 1 to 31 October 2026. Every bottle contributes, whether its cap is pink or white.
- Share the campaign message with friends and family and encourage them to remain informed about their health.
- Visit the Cancervive website for awareness information and support resources, including the Thuto Cancer Chatbot, a multilingual WhatsApp bot offering access to information, education and support services.
The pink cap is small, but the conversation it starts can make a meaningful difference.
