The Hollywoodbets Durban July is known for creating unforgettable cultural moments, and this year, Mercedes-Benz Vans South Africa delivered one that captured the spirit of Country Allure through a distinctly modern African lens.
In one of the day’s most talked-about arrivals, music icon DJ Tira descended from the skies to welcome media personality, entrepreneur and style authority Lerato Kganyago, bringing together fashion, music and luxury on South Africa’s biggest social stage.
As the city’s unofficial “mayor” and a man whose Durban July entrances have become legendary, DJ Tira
once again raised the bar. His helicopter touched down as cameras gathered and a fleet of black Mercedes-
Benz V-Class vehicles stood waiting below. Moments later, Lerato emerged from one of the vehicles wearing
a bespoke Gert-Johan Coetzee creation inspired by the V-Class itself.
The look interpreted this year’s Country Allure theme through African craftsmanship, contemporary
elegance and a celebration of heritage. Intricate detailing, sculptural elements and artisanal techniques
transformed the design into a modern expression of luxury – one that reflected both tradition and
innovation.
The arrival offered a fresh perspective on country glamour, one rooted in community, culture and the
journeys that bring people home. It was a fitting tribute to Durban, a city where creativity and spectacle
continue to shape some of the country’s most iconic moments.
For Mercedes-Benz Vans South Africa, the occasion showcased how the V-Class extends beyond mobility
to become part of life’s most meaningful experiences.
“Country Allure celebrates craftsmanship, heritage and authenticity – values that resonate strongly with the
V-Class. Bringing Lerato and DJ Tira together allowed us to interpret the theme in a way that feels uniquely
South African, while highlighting a modern vision of luxury, culture and connection,” says Ensly Dooms,
Product and Brand Marketing at Mercedes-Benz Vans South Africa.
For Lerato Kganyago, the moment was about embracing individuality and the transformative power of
fashion.
“Durban July is one of the few spaces where people can dream out loud through style. This look made me
feel powerful, confident and completely myself, and I love that it celebrates the idea that luxury is ultimately
about expressing who you are without limits,” says Kganyago.

DJ Tira says the Durban July remains a platform to showcase the city’s unique energy and cultural influence.
“The Durban July is our time to shine. We wanted to create something memorable that celebrated our roots
while bringing the excitement and glamour that Durban is known for. It was a proud moment to welcome
Lerato home in true Durban style,” says Tira.
As Mercedes-Benz Vans South Africa marks 140 years of innovation, moments like these continue to reflect
the evolving nature of luxury – where culture, craftsmanship and unforgettable experiences come together.
More than an arrival, this was a celebration of modern African elegance: Durban royalty welcoming fashion
royalty in a moment that captured the imagination of the country.
