BY THABO MONAMA
There is an English Idiom that says good fences make good neighbours and I this club by friends from Soweto represent exactly that.
And this is simply because Lethabo Msimang from Meadlands will be smiling all the way to the bank this coming Month.
This mum of two has been saving enough cash that will allow her to buy school uniform for her grade 7 and 10 children just before Christmas unlike few years ago.
Speaking to Stokvel Talk recently she said, : “I am happy I made a right when I decided to join a social club two years ago.
Today I can manage to buy some of the things a need during this season, few years ago I would struggle to buy school uniform because I would spend most of the money on grocery .
So now I think those who struggling with cash should atleast start their own or join any club of their it will help them especially if they plan save cash together ,” she said.
Neighborhood Social club was started back in 2020 by neighbors and friends in Meadoands zone 8 and the reason for this is because some of them lost their income after covid-19.
Today six years later the cub that had only 7 members has grown to 12 members whom majority of the are women.
Members meet every Month on rotation basis and each one of them contribute cash into their saving account and on the 11 Month they share the money according to how much each one of them has saved the money.
Dikeledi Moema one of the founders said, : “ We planning to few projects next year which include launching our own uniform before winter.
But we also plan to organize a bootcamp for ur school kids next year with some portion of the money we save, in short we need to increase our savings as individual members, however this does not include everyone because some no longer have kids who attend school.
Our club is here to help us achieve goals we set up ourselves, each has to decide where to us her or his savings hence some of our members only save the money for grocery only,” Dikeledi mentioned
