Maftown Heights launches inaugural Creative Community Workshop

Reading Time: 2 minutes

One of Africa’s largest music
festivals, lauded as an instrumental platform in driving the Motswako
movement and giving rising acts a platform to grow, Maftown Heights, carries
the same ethos of nurturing talent with their inaugural Maftown Heights
Creative Community Workshop set to take place on Friday, 6 March 2020 in
Mahikeng, North West, at the Mmabatho Palms.

With a power line up of speakers and facilitators billed for the workshop,
Maftown Heights in partnership with the Khuli Chana Foundation and the North
West Department of Culture, Arts and Traditional Affairs (CATA), will bring
the best of the different ecosystems within the South African music and
events industry, to share, empower and network with the North West Creative
Community.

A first of its kind in the North West of this magnitude, The Maftown Heights
Creative Community Workshop kicks off the 10-year anniversary celebrations
for the renowned music festival.

“Maftown Heights has played an instrumental role in shaping my career and
each year we pay it forward by putting new kids on. This year we want to
have a greater impact not only in the lives of up and coming musicians, but
for the creative community as a whole,” expresses Khuli Chana, Maftown
Heights co-founder.

“Maftown Heights has played an instrumental role in shining a spotlight on
the careers of many artists who have now gone on to become household names.
At its core, this is an inclusive platform aimed at showcasing the best and
brightest talent from the Motswako genre as well as the many artists across
multiple genres that they collaborate with to make amazing and timeless
music, shares Refiloe Ramogase, Maftown Heights co-founder.

Refiloe Ramogase adds: “It is thus important for us to launch this new
initiative in the hometown that this festival celebrates as being the
birthplace of the loudly and proudly South African hip hop sub-genre that is
Motswako.”

Creative Community Workshop FREE of charge, should contact one of the below
