Heritage Day at Loftus Versfeld Stadium turned into a sizzling celebration of South African culture as over 2 500 people gathered for the World’s Biggest Braai attempt, proudly sponsored by Big Save and White Star.
With 420 braai stations set up across the field, participants grilled half a ton of meat in unison, hoping to beat the Guinness World Record of 2 220 people set in Japan. The braai was more than just a record attempt — it was a vibrant festival of food, music, and unity.
Performers including Mi Casa, GoodLuck, Kurt Darren, Boohle G, Lee Cole and Biggy entertained the crowd, while families enjoyed traditional sides such as pap, proudly provided through White Star’s sponsorship.
Speaking at the event, organisers emphasised that the day was about more than breaking records. “This is about celebrating our heritage, bringing people together, and giving back,” they said. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Trek4Mandela, supporting food security and period poverty projects nationwide.
Glenn Pollard, the Guinness World Records adjudicator, confirmed that all evidence from the event is under review, with results to be announced soon.
Whether or not the record is officially recognised, the partnership of Big Save and White Star ensured the 2025 Heritage Day braai will be remembered as one of the biggest and most spirited gatherings of its kind.
