TRAC N4 gears up for Easter traffic

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Traffic volumes are expected to increase significantly along the N4 Toll Route between Gauteng,
Mpumalanga and Maputo this Easter, with Trans African Concessions (TRAC) ready to roll out enhanced
measures to manage the influx between the two countries.
As one of the busiest travel periods of the year, the Easter weekend typically sees a dramatic spike in
traffic on the TRAC N4. Based on historical data, peak travel times are expected as follows:
Thursday, 17 April: 12:00 – 21:00
Friday, 18 April: 06:00 – 15:00
Monday, 21 April: 09:00 – 21:00
To ensure road safety and efficient travel, TRAC’s Easter Road Safety Awareness and Swift Response
Campaign will run from 17 to 22 April 2025.
Road Safety in Action
The campaign kicks off with a public road safety activation at Alzu Petroport on Friday, 18 April, where
TRAC teams will engage with travellers, highlighting key safety tips and services available on the route.
Road users can look forward to free giveaways, including freshly brewed Mugg & Bean beverages, while
learning more about the TRAC 24-hour Helpdesk and TRACAssist services.
24-Hour Free Roadside Assistance
TRAC’s toll-free Helpdesk remains operational 365 days a year, linking road users to immediate assistance.
TRACAssist units will be strategically deployed along the N4, working in close coordination with emergency
services to ensure quick response times. TRAC patrol teams will also conduct multiple daily route
inspections to proactively monitor and manage safety risks in both South Africa and Mozambique.
Border Post Coordination
While TRAC does not manage border operations, the company will collaborate with officials at Lebombo
and Ressano Garcia Border Posts to assist with traffic control through signage and traffic accommodation
measures. Travellers are urged to plan ahead to avoid expected delays at these international crossings.

Press Release

Although two roadblocks will be in place – one at Coopersdal Intersection and the other at KM
7/Strydomblok, traffic flow along the N4 will continue as normal, unless abnormal traffic volumes
necessitate adjustments.
In the event of heavy congestion, the following steps will be implemented on the eastbound route in South
Africa:
1. Commercial trucks will be diverted via Coopersdal and Strydomblok
2. Traffic heading to Komatipoort will be rerouted via Tenbosch Road
3. During severe westbound congestion, traffic will be diverted via Strydomblok and Mananga Road.
In a bid to avoid congestion, Mozambican authorities will erect advance clearing points on the westbound
route (direction to South Africa) at KM 10 and KM 4, near the Ressano Garcia Border Post. In case of
congestion, commercial vehicles heading westbound will be temporarily held at the Pessene Load Control
Centre and Moamba Toll Plaza.
Roadworks & Safety Reminders
Although all road construction will be suspended over the long weekend, roadworks will remain active
construction zones, and minor traffic accommodation may still be in place. Road users are reminded to
remain alert and comply with posted signage.

TRAC calls on all road users to obey traffic laws, respect fellow travellers, and remain vigilant. Negligent
driving and speeding remain one of the leading causes of accidents—let’s not add to the statistics. Let’s
travel safe, celebrate life, and remember—road safety is everyone’s responsibility.
