Tournament of the year looms at Emperors Palace

Emperors Palace, in association with Golden Gloves, presents the Top Guns boxing tournament on 15 November, an event boxing aficionados have been waiting for with baited breath since the announcement of the tournament earlier this month.
The infamous Centre Court will see the return of Tommy ‘The Gun’ Oosthuizen as he faces Russia’s Denis Grachev for the WBC International Light Heavyweight Title in a 12 round battle that will have locals chanting calls in support for the come-back-kid. The bout on everyone’s lips is the epic battle between Cruiserweights Johnny ‘The Hurricane’ Muller and Kevin ‘KO Kid’ Lerena. Although Muller is a crowd favorite at Emperors Palace, the boxing fraternity is expecting a barnburner of a fight between these two warriors.
World honours will once again beckon when Ali Funeka takes on Roman Balaev for the vacant IBO Welterweight Title. Balaev is the current IBF Youth Welterweight Champion and WBA Continental Welterweight Champion, who sports impressive records of 10 KO’s in 14 fights and poses a serious threat to Funeka’s aspirations. “Sadly Funeka has twice been deprived of his rightly deserved World Title honours – losing to Nate Campbell on a split decision and then controversially drawing with Joan Guzman for the vacant IBF Lightweight Title. Funeka’s opportunity reunites the great partnership between Mzi Mnguni and Rodney Berman with their trademark handshake”, comments Jeff Ellis, AfricanRing Boxing Promoter.
Tickets are priced from R150 per person and fans can combine the spectacular boxing with Lazy Weekend Funstays, starting from as little as R535 per person sharing, including breakfast.
