COPA Coca-Cola®, the world’s largest grassroots football tournament, returns this weekend with the Northern Cape provincial final continuing the road to crowd South Africa’s top u15 football team.
The Northern Cape final also sees the search for the COPA Coca-Cola® Which Part Will You Play all-stars continue. South African footballing legend, Simba Marumo, will be on the lookout for a teen embodying the characteristics of The Joker archetype (a player able to bring an uplifting smile to his team, no matter what the situation) to join the side.
Each member of the COPA Coca-Cola® Which Part Will You Play all-star side will embody the dynamic and unique roles needed to make up a successful team. The Rock, The Heart, The Perfectionist, The Rebel, The Joker, The Legend, The Machine and The Artist archetypes are still yet to be discovered.
Fetsi Mbele, Senior Communications Manager: Brand Experience, Coca-Cola South Africa commented, “June kicked-off the COPA Coca-Cola provincial finals with two brilliant tournaments. With the Northern Cape leg kicking this phase of tournament off again the road to the national finals now starts in earnest. We are immensely excited to see the talent that will be uncovered and to continue to inspire young footballers to reach their goals, both on and off the field of play, through perseverance and hard work.”
Two of the nine provincials have already taken place and saw Masomele Maliwa from Guqaza JSS being identified as The Underdog. Maliwa was chosen after he effortlessly stood out from the crowd of young hopefuls by showcasing his tenacious nature and resilience throughout the eventful day. The second player who secured his place in the all-star team is Craig Swartz who was chosen as The Impossible, the player who has the ability to make it happen for his team and weave magic from nothing.
Simba Marumo added, “I can’t wait to get to the Northern Cape to continue the search for the most talented youngsters South Africa has to offer. I’ve been immensely impressed with the standard of football we have already witnessed this season. In Masomele and Craig we have found brilliant additions to the COPA Coca-Cola® Which Part Will You play all-star team and I am excited to see who we uncover this weekend in Upington.”
With South Africa’s best u15 sides fighting it out for this year’s title, it looks as though COPA Coca-Cola® 2016 will continue to produce fireworks. The two preceding finals have already seen Zamokuhle Junior Secondary School from the Eastern Cape as well as Desmond Impilo Tutu High School from the Western Cape advance to the COPA Coca-Cola® National Finals, taking place in September 2016.
Follow the action from the COPA Coca-Cola® Northern Cape provincial final, taking place at the Robert Gunda Stadium in Upington, as more teens from across the country will be given the opportunity to showcase their talent.
