The Glenlivet mystery Single Malt The Cipher revealed at Whisky Live Festival 2016

Lovers of the dram attending the 14th annual Whisky Live Festival this year were the first to taste a mysterious new limited edition single malt by top-selling global single malt brand,The Glenlivet. A whisky created for the single malt adventurer and connoisseur, The Cipher shares the centre stage at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg from 9 to 11 November.

It’s the place to be if you appreciate the craft of the world’s finest whiskies – whether you’re just starting out on your whisky journey or a seasoned traveller.
The Glenlivet experience at Whisky Live 2016 was like no other. This year, whisky devotees had a rare opportunity to step into the world of true aficionados and learn more about the single malt that founded the modern Speyside whisky tradition, thereby earning the title – the single malt that started it all. It wasatThe Glenlivet stand at Whisky Live 2016 that the enigmatic new expression – The Cipher – was revealed. At The Glenlivet ‘Cipher Room’ an additional feature this year, visitors couldindulge in a delightful sense of play, deciphering this enigmatic new expression.
“A true connoisseur appreciates a great whisky with all of their senses. This is what the Cipher Room Experience is all about,” explains The Glenlivet brand manager Eugene Lenford. “This year, we invited visitors to enter the fold of whisky connoisseurs and indulge in the single malt in a fun and immersive way. The unveiling of The Cipher, a limited-edition expression with loads of personality, is another great milestone that we shared.”
The Cipher has been launched as a mystery product, in an opaque bottle, with no tasting notes, cask information or age statement. The experience of discovering the whisky is intended to be as personal and rewarding as possible.
“The Cipher just begs to be deciphered,” Lenford adds.
The Cipher Room Experience was hosted by brand ambassador Peter Methven who guidedguests through the mystery. Those who opted to participate had the opportunity to taste The Cipher and take part in a digital experience to decode its unforgettable flavour notes. A digital application available on The Glenlivet website was offered to help break the whisky code.
The Cipher joins a renowned whisky portfolio. The Glenlivet Classic range includes 12, 15, 18, 21 and 25 Year Old expressions. The fine craftsmanship and exceptional quality of each speaks of a long and rich heritage. The Glenlivet’s dedication to excellence remains unchanged since its founder, George Smith, started the first licensed distillery in 1824. Today, master distiller Alan Winchester is at the helm of The Glenlivet. He has over 30 years of experience and continues to produce a range of award winning whiskies.
The Glenlivet Cipher Room ran throughout the festival with deciphering slots offered every 20 minutes.
