The 2014 edition of the Engen Knockout Challenge kicks off

South Africa’s most prestigious U17 youth football tournament, the Engen Knockout Challenge, will once again sphere the country in search of the nation’s future football stars. The tournament will run from June through to July 2014 in five regions that being Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein, Durban, Gauteng and Cape Town.

Over the years the Engen Knockout Challenge has influenced the lives of some 18 000 participants across South Africa. 16 teams in each of the five regions play a total of 48 matches over three days. Engen is proud to be at the forefront of offering young, aspiring, talented footballers a platform where they can be groomed and potentially scouted. These principles are very important to Engen as it’s the sponsor’s goal to develop the nation’s youth.

The event has proved successful in helping young hopefuls fulfil their football dreams. Former participants that have taken this step, include:

Thulani Serero, Ronwen Williams and Keegan Dolly to mention a few.

This year Engen proudly introduces the Engen Champs of Champs where the winners of each region’s Engen Knockout Challenge will make their way to Gauteng to compete for the ultimate prize, to be crowned the first ever Engen Champs of Champs. The new event emphasises the growth and demand of the tournament and will take place from the 10th to 12th October 2014 hosted by Engen’s new partner, Supersport United Football Club.

“After 10 years of our involvement in youth development football, we felt it was time to take the next step in terms of creating a new event where South Africa’s best compete against each in other the Champs of Champ, elevating the level of the tournament to a much higher level”, commented Brad Bergh, Group Sponsorship Manager at Engen.

The Engen Knockout Challenge and Engen Champs of Champs offer a great experience for all, where the general public are invited to come and enjoy the entertainment by local DJ’s, food and refreshments as well as some activities for the kids.
