The second-generation Suzuki Celerio has arrived just in time for many motorists feel under pressure
from ever-rising fuel cost. That saving grace by the Celerio comes via the consumption rate of as low as
4.2l/100km for the range topper, the 1.0 GL AMT (automated manual transmission).
The two other models in new Celerio’s two-trim levels, the 1.0 GA and GL, are not so shabby at a slightly
higher but still very low rate of 4.2l/100km fuel consumption.
The Celerio, overall is not the most powerful or fastest car on the road. However, its modest power
inputs, 49 kW/89 Nm from 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated 3-cylinder petrol engine, are informed by the
design atttude that it’s good to arrive safely and on time without damage to your pocket in terms of petrol
cost.
The beauty of the Suzuki Celerio is not however confined to its petrol efficency. The compact hatchback
has decent specs and comfort for a car needed for practical, basic uses. The market, which already has
given Suzuki cars the lofty status of third best selling brand in South Africa since February, should be
ready to spend on the Celerio as it is doing with the popular hatch Swift and Vitara Brezza.
The second generation Celerio, even if we have to repeat ourselves, is downright beauty in its sector.
The new Celerio is more visible, wider and longer than the past very small geneartion. It also boasts a
relatively large load bay set at the capacity of 295 litres. Secondly, the new model wins more trust itself
for having adopted the same HEARTECT platform as the one that underpins the Swift.
Moving inside, the interior looks welcoming with the trim materials looking sharp and stylish.
The entry level Celerio GA has the followng basic but above average specs: 14-inch steel wheels, audio
controls on the steering wheel, info display with fuel consumption, air conditioner, rear parking sensors,
engine start stop, immobiliser and ISOfix child-seat anchor points.
Celerio GL, both manual and auto, boast 15-inch alloys, body-coloured door handles and mirrors, front
fog lamps, electric mirrors, multifunction steering wheel, remote central locking, 7-inch touchscreen
infotainment system and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity.
All three models also have basic safety features such as two airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS) and an
electronic stability programme.
Peformance-wise, the Celerio does the job it’s been built for: to take you to your decision in relative
comfort without stress over the tank and your pocket.
