Sun International’s nationwide slots tournament, SunSlots, reached a nail-biting crescendo on Saturday, 9 May 2015, when the cream of the crop from the competition convened at Sun City for the grand finale.
The event saw 90 finalists, representing 11 Sun International casinos across South Africa, compete for a share of R3.2-million. The participating casinos included GrandWest (Western Cape); Sun City (North West); Sibaya (KwaZulu-Natal); Boardwalk (Eastern Cape); Carnival City (Gauteng); Golden Valley (Western Cape); Wild Coast (Eastern Cape); Carousel (North West); Meropa (Limpopo);Windmill (Free State), and Morula (Gauteng).
Jacqueline Johnston from Durban, representing Sibaya Casino, was the ultimate winner of the tournament and took home the lion’s share of R1.5-million. Gino Veludo from Polokwane, representing Meropa Casino, was the runner up in the R1000 Buy-In category and won R500 000, while Ivan Moodley from Brakpan, representing Carnival City, took third place, winning R200 000.
The winner of the R100 Buy-In category was Carlene Gerber from Port Elizabeth, representing The Boardwalk Casino. She won a healthy R500 000. In second place was NeronGovender from Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal, representing Sibaya Casino. He won R150 000, while Marius Stoltz from Uitenhage, representing The Boardwalk Casino,came third and won R50 000.
One of Sun International’s biggest-ever national slot tournaments, SunSlots boasted a potential prize bounty – including cash and freeplay – of R5-million.

SunSlots, which was open to MVG Card Holders, kicked off in March, with qualifying rounds taking place weekly at all participating casinos until the end of April. Regional finals took place at the 11 participating casinos on Sunday, 3 May 2015, to determine who would go through to the national event.
