Sun International’s magical Sun City will be a showcase of Chinese culture and all things oriental in celebration of the Chinese New Year from Friday, 20 February, to Sunday, 22 February 2015.
Decked in glittering red and gold, lit up by Chinese lanterns, and a stage for spectacular fireworks displays and traditional lion dancers, Sun City will be a hive of colourful activity throughout the three-day celebration to welcome the Year of the Goat.
“Few nations celebrate New Year in the spectacular style of the Chinese. In honour of our Chinese patrons and the millions of people who celebrate the Chinese New Year, Sun City will stage a dramatic festival that will bring to life the sights, sounds and aromas of this colourful culture.
“You don’t have to be Chinese to celebrate Chinese New Year. Join millions of people around the world in marking the start of the Year of the Goat, and wish each other ‘Slin Nen Fai Lok’ at Sun City,” says Caroline Monei, the Media Liaison Officer at Sun City.
There are a host of special treats and events scheduled during the celebration. In the spirit of the occasion, guests at Sun City’s hotels will receive a welcome letter in Mandarin, and bowls of traditional New Year oranges and Green Tea will greet them at the Reception and Guest Relations desks. They will also receive a chocolate coin in a red envelope upon check-in.
“Oranges are believed to bring luck or good fortune and throughout China, red envelopes filled with small gifts of food or sweets are exchanged between friends or relatives over New Year,” explains Monei.
Throughout the world Chinese New Year is marked by a large and sumptuous feast of meats, fish, seafood, duck, special dumplings, noodles and other delicacies. Similarly, Sun City’s various hotels and restaurants will enter into the spirit of the celebration by supplying diners with chopsticks and adding a Chinese flavour to all breakfast buffets and other fare from Monday, 16 February, to Sunday, 22 February 2015.
A convoy of lion dancers will wind their way across the complex, ending at the Monkey Spring Plaza on 21 and 22 February 2015. A dazzling fireworks display will follow the lion dance on the 21stnd – also at the Monkey Spring Plaza.
