In celebrating all things local, loud and proud, the 22nd Annual South African Music Awards have asked high profile South Africans to start the conversation by sharing a playlist of their respective all-time favourite 22 SA songs.
8-time SAMA 20 winning group Mafikizolo, celebrated TV and radio darling Bonang Matheba, the North God of South African Hip-hop Da L.E.S, last year’s four-time SAMA winner DJ Clock, former Destiny Man editor Kojo Baffoe (now an in-demand public speaker), lead vocalist of group Fokofpolisiekar Francois van Coke, Afrikaans electronic band Die Heuwels Fantasties and wildly popular double SAMA nominees Desmond and the Tutus, among many others, have each curated a playlist of their favourite 22 home-grown tracks to share with the nation.
These exclusive playlists will be available to stream from the SAMA 22 curator page www.applemusic.com/SAMA22 on Apple Music, ahead of the 22nd Annual South African Music Awards at the Durban International Convention Centre on Saturday, 4 June 2016. The star-studded ceremony, packed with electrifying live performances and collaborations by the nominees, will be broadcast live on SABC1 at 8pm on the 4th June 2016.

As South Africans, I think we don’t always appreciate quite how far we’ve come as a nation musically, and how much we owe to both pioneers and the current trailblazers.
