The 5th Annual Local Government Talent Management Seminar is set to take place from 28 – 29 September 2023 at the Premier Hotel OR Tambo in Kempton Park, Johannesburg. Under the theme, Deploying Talent Management Tools that Drive Agility in the Local Government Sector, this event promises to be a significant gathering for municipal professionals across South Africa.

SALGA, recognizing the need for seminars to enhance leadership and skills, has developed leadership-focused interventions to empower municipalities in addressing local government challenges. These interventions, offered through the SALGA Centre for Leadership and Governance (SCLG), include leadership conversations, coaching, training, and blended learning programs.

Attendees can anticipate a dynamic mix of thought leadership insights, municipal case studies, best practice exchanges, and panel discussions to equip them with the knowledge and tools required to enhance agility within their local government sectors. Julia Modise, Group HR Executive at BMW SA, will deliver the seminar’s keynote address.

Over two days, the seminar will delve into various topics, including human capital management legislative and policy reforms, 4IR implications for local government, cutting-edge recruitment assessment tools, skills alignment, resilient organizational structures, diversity celebration, talent mobility promotion, and the cultivation of an agile, resilient, and human-centred organizational culture. Additionally, it will explore agile values and principles, unveiling strategies for process restructuring that enable local governments to embrace agile practices seamlessly.

This 5th Annual Local Government Talent Management Seminar will employ various approaches, encompassing insights from industry leaders, keynote presentations, case studies, interactive panel discussions, and engaging simulated demonstrations. Notably, this event is proudly accredited by the South African Board of People Practices (SABPP), ensuring that every participant will receive a prestigious CPD certificate.

Rio Nolutshungu, Chief Officer of Municipal Capabilities and Governance, highlighted, “This seminar embodies SALGA’s steadfast commitment to advancing a developmental agenda through active introspection and cultivating thought leadership initiatives. A pivotal moment occurred on 14 July 2023, as SALGA celebrated the relaunch of the 2023 – 2027 Capacity Building Programmes Catalogue of the SALGA Centre for Leadership and Governance (SCLG) at Thaba Eco Hotel, Gauteng. This event underscored SALGA’s resolute dedication to enhancing the competence and performance of local government officials, all while nurturing a culture of professionalism, accountability, and innovation within the sector. The 5th Annual Local Government Talent Management Seminar is an outcome of the Centre for Leadership and Governance, aimed at propelling a developmental agenda through active reflection and thought leadership programs.”
