The ‘SABC Summer Song of the Year 2016/17’ was recently launched at a classy celebration at the SABC’s ground floor reception, where previous winners, top 10 finalists and artists where invited to join in the festivities. The ‘SABC Summer Song of the Year’ campaign, the brainchild of Michael Owen Productions is about seeking out and awarding the most popular song of the year. The campaign brings all 18 SABC Radio stations together and each radio station encourages their listeners to vote for favourite song which should be on that particular station’s playlist.
The artist, who wins the Summer Song Title, walks away with a KIA motor vehicle to the value of R250 000 and a R150 000 cash prize. The winner will be announced live on SABC 1’s Come Duze on New Year’s Eve and will perform at the SABC’s end of the year bash which will be held in Richards Bay. Depending on the whereabouts of the winning artist, he will be flown in to the bash to perform the winning song when the clock strikes 00:00. To be the winning song, a hit has to have at least dominated 5 SABC radio stations and receive the most number of votes from all SABC radio stations’ votes combined. Voters/SABC radio listeners stand a chance to win a brand new KIA Picanto by smsing the keyword to 33175. Voting lines are now open.
Mr Kaizer Kganyago, the SABC Spokesperson stated “’The SABC Summer Song of The Year’ has proven to be a major success. The fact that the public votes for the overall song, which is then played across all our 18 radio stations at midnight is no small feat. We urge the public to continuously vote for their favourite song as this year once again competition is tight and it will be a hotly contested terrain. We wish all the nominated artists well and may the best song win!”“This campaign is an opportunity for the SABC to engage with their audience,” says Owen Ndlovu of Michael Owen Productions. “The SABC wants listeners to be the judges.”
