Hope Property Stokvel brings new hope for home seekers

Bontle Zweni is the founder of Hope Property Stokvel, which started in 2018. Midrand is the area they
are currently buying in.

The Stokvel focuses on buying land which then is distributed among members to build their own houses.
A member can choose to sell their land later and reinvest again in the property market or in other sectors
of the economy.
“So far we have managed to buy two plots and we are raising money for the third plot. In total the Stokvel
has managed to raise close to R4 million for the plot,” said Zweni.
Some of Hope Property Stokvel members are young professionals who were blacklisted in the earlier
years of their careers. And because of that, they could no longer apply for a bond while on the other
hand they do not qualify for RDP housing because of their income brackets.

Hope Property Stokvel therefore affords them the opportunity to buy land (300 square metres) and
develop it themselves, which is much cheaper than acquiring property via a bond account.
Zweni further emphasised that buying a plot by your own as a young professional isn’t easy, but when
you are part of a team it’s much better as it is less expensive. Hope Property Stokvel also has the
government’s approval letters regarding the land they are buying.
It also works with lawyers to assist with all the legal processes before signing the contract.
“The word has spread out there and people have been showing interest to be part of the Property
Stokvel,” she added.

Zweni also admits that despite the number of calls they receive, very few end up signing for membership
because of fear for scams.
She urges anyone interested in being part of Hope Property Stokvel to visit their offices at Cnr Republic
and West streets in Johannesburg. Potential clients will be given a form that they will need to read
carefully at home before completing it.

Required documents are ID copy and proof of income [bank statement]. If all goes well you will then
receive an acceptance letter, before paying a non-refundable registration fee of R500. Once the payment
has been received, the new member will be given their shares certificate.
The next step will be monthly payments of R2,500 until the members complete contribution for land
acquisition.
Every second week Hope Property Stokvel have follow up meetings and a year-end Christmas party.
They invite professionals, property experts and security companies to conduct presentations to the
members.
