South African music lovers are in for a never-seen, never-heard-before musical treat with the announcement of a national tour collaboration by Kwai Jazz legend, Don Laka, and super Mbaqanga group, Soul Brothers, to celebrate over 40 years in music for both brands.
The tour will be a first in Mzansiand neighboring countries where Kwai Jazz and Mbaqanga genres unite on one stage for a national tour.
“The idea was conceived well over 30 years ago with the intention to bridge the gap between the two genres and bring fans from both spheres together,” explains Laka. “As a musician, I draw inspiration from elements in other music genres and Mbaqanga is one of them. The tour will showcase this fusion of elements and will show fans that although genres may sound different in sound, they are in fact very similar. The timing has never been perfect as we both celebrate 4-decades in the music industry.”
Both Don Laka and Soul Brothers promise a series of nationwide live concerts with world-class bands and rare performances. This includes Don Laka fusing his internationally acclaimed Kwai Jazz magic on existing Soul Brothers music. Soul Brothers will return the favour by blending in their award-winning sound on Don Laka’s catalogue. All this will be an exclusive live treat for concert attendees and a memorable experience for music lovers.
“For me, this is a revival of Soul Brothers,” says Moses Ngwenya. “As the only surviving founding member of the band, it feels like my late colleagues and friends will join us on stage in spirit and give our fans an unforgettable performance. I’m also excited that Mbaqanga fans will also be spoilt with a Kwai Jazz treat which is something they have never seen before. Kwai Jazz fans will also experience Don Laka’s music in a different way when we bring the Mbaqanga element to it on stage.”
Besides the musical festivities planned, young musicians will also have the opportunity to be empowered through workshops conducted by Don Laka. “I will be sharing insights on longevity and educating young people on the business end of the music industry as part of each tour stop. This is a great opportunity for young musicians to learn firsthand from our experiences and learnings so they are readied on what to expect in their musical journeys.”
The Don Laka and Soul Brothers national tour brings together two heavyweight brands who boast international recognition, awards and long-term careers. Don Laka will also perform gems from his album, Reflections.

The tour will take place in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Northwest, Limpopo, Eastern Cape, KZN, Western Cape and Free State, and will cross the boarder to Swaziland, Botswana and Namibia. Tour dates and venues will be announced through press and social media channels.
