In a milestone moment for South African music and cultural celebration, Munghana Lonene FM Xitsonga Music Awards (XMA) will be held for the first time at Thulamahashe Stadium in the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, Mpumalanga. This marks a significant shift in venue from previous years and highlights the station’s commitment to bringing the celebration closer to communities at the heart of Xitsonga culture.

Organisers have confirmed that the awards ceremony — celebrating two decades of outstanding achievement in Xitsonga music — is scheduled for Saturday, 20 December 2025. The event forms part of the station’s anniversary celebrations.

“This year’s ceremony will be more than just an awards night,” said representatives from Munghana Lonene FM. “Hosting the event at Thulamahashe Stadium reflects our ongoing mission to honour Xitsonga music and culture where its vibrant audiences live and breathe it.” Tickets for the event — including VIP experiences — are already on sale through official booking platforms.

A First in XMA History

The awards’ relocation to Thulamahashe is unprecedented; this will be the first time the Xitsonga Music Awards have been staged in Bushbuckridge, bringing national media attention and tourism exposure to the region. Traditionally held in larger urban centres, the move underscores the importance of decentralising major cultural events and celebrating South Africa’s rich, diverse musical heritage where it is deeply rooted.

Local officials have welcomed the announcement, noting the significant economic and cultural benefits expected to flow to Mpumalanga. The influx of fans, artists, media and industry members is anticipated to boost hospitality, transport, and other local sectors, while also positioning Bushbuckridge as a growing destination for large-scale events.

Celebrating Xitsonga Music Excellence

The Xitsonga Music Awards spotlight a wide range of genres and celebrate excellence among Xitsonga artists across the country. This year’s nominees include some of South Africa’s most dynamic performers, with celebrated acts such as Musa Keys, BlissBouy and J John The Big Baby among those contending for top honours — setting the stage for a night of electrifying performances and heartfelt recognition.

As anticipation builds towards December 20, fans and performers alike are gearing up for what organisers describe as the most meaningful chapter yet in the awards history — one that elevates Xitsonga music while shining a spotlight on the cultural vibrancy of Mpumalanga.
