It is back … bigger, better and with more bombshells than ever before. This is the famous and most anticipated Munghana Lonene fm Xitsonga Music Awards. The year 2015 sees the station celebrate the 13th instalment of this prestigious event and this one too brings numerous exciting surprises to the music community. The station had a successful launch at Meropa Entertainment World in Polokwane, Limpopo. Nominations for the XMA13 “as the concept is popularly known based on its phase” were unveiled today, 29 September 2015. As expected, the event was attended by heavyweights in the music industry, business, politics and traditional houses. Nominees will this year battle it out in 13 categories, including newly introduced Best Language Purity category as well as the once off Best Station’s 50th Song of the year.
The Best Mindzhumba Ya Afrika category has been dropped due to limited submissions in this genre. The Dr. Thomas Chauke Artist of the year category previously won by Joe Shirimane is one of the highly contested category in this year’s awards. With 5 of Xitsonga’s best artists in Kenny Bevhula, Sunglen Chavalala, Florah Nwa Chauke Colonel Mhlongo and Percy Mfana, it will be very interesting to see who will walk away with this award in the evening of Saturday 7th November 2015. The station will also hand out 4 special recognition awards at a lavish Gala Dinner which will be held at Giyani Community Hall on Friday 6th November 2015 to the late Joel Bvuma (AKA Xihumbuyani) who will be remembered posthumously, Legendary MC Mabasa will receive the Living Legends award, while Mozambican Xidimingwana (Bernardo Domingos Onuane) will receive a Special award with the great Vusi Mahlasela being honored with “The Companion of Xitsonga music award” for his favourate song Miyela Africa, he follows on the footsteps of Ray Chikapa Phiri and Sipho Hotstix Mabuse who were recognized with this award in 2013 & 2014 respectively.
Leading the pack with 4 nominations each this year is Kenny Bevhula, Sunglen, Doctor Sithole & Percy Mfana followed by Moca, Limpopo Roots & Benny Mayengani with 3 nominations while Joe Shirimane Snombelani Sisters, Team Nyenya, Amalo and the new kid on the block Mr. Kwatani has 2 nominations each. Mr Kwatani is making waves as he features on the Best New Comer category while also battling it out with Disco’s bests such as Colonel Mhlongo, King Soshangane for Best Xitsonga Disco crown.
“These awards continue to play a very serious role in improving the Xitsonga music offering and have inspired our musicians to up their game in producing good quality music. As a station, we are also using these awards to send a very strong message in our fight against Xenophobia, hence Xidimingwana from Mozambique is nominated to receive a special award. “said Munghana Lonene fm station manager, Mr. James Shikwambana.
The station’s faithful listeners are not left out. They will participate by voting for the Most Popular Song and will also be part of the awards ceremony in November at Giyani stadium. A general ticket costs R50 while VIP will set festival goers a mere R350 at Computickets nationwide. 3 lucky listeners’ stands a chance to win R10 000 each and a VIP experience for them and a partner if they buy a ticket before 16 October 2015. The awards presentation will be followed by a BIG music festival which will feature the cream of South African music such as Ringo Madlingozi, Solly Mahlangu, Penny Penny, Mdu, Dr. Thomas Chauke, Joe Shirimane Na Vana Va Ndhoda, Kenny Bevhula, Sunglen, Prince Rhangane, Gammi, DJ Themba, the festival will also feature one of the station’s own son Mchangaan .

33129 was officially unveiled as the voting line for Best Xitsonga Most Popular Song of the year. The category will be decided by the station’s listeners, while an experienced panel of judges will be appointed to adjudicate in the rest of the categories overseen by SABC auditor.
Winners will be announced at the music awards ceremony to be held at Giyani stadium in Giyani, Limpopo Province on the 7th November 2015.
The event on the 7th November 2015 will be preceded by a gala dinner on the 6th November where all special awards are going to be presented.
