Mitsubishi clearly has a lot of trust in the Eclipse Cross. Last year the Japanese automaker pulled all the stops to release the updated version of the compact family car, with safety and comfort features aplenty.
This year Mitsubishi began 2023 with another update of the Eclipse Cross, this time adding new range topper, the classy GLS Exceed as the first of its products earmarked for upgrades to hit the market.
The Eclipse Cross GLS Exceed is powered by a 1.5-litre turbopetrol engine with 110kw and 250 Nm on offer and its mated wityhn an 8-step CVT with a sports mode.
The entry level model of the three, the Eclipse Cross 2.0, uses a 2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, with same power output of 110kw but a bit sluggish torgue of 198Nm.
Safety features start from the wheels with ABS and EBD, to brake assist, hill start assist and electronic stability control with traction control. The three derivatives also contain seven airbags for maximum protection in case of a crash.
Mitsubishi has now added blind spot monitoring to the package and Mitsubishi Motors Intuitive Technology (MiTEC) which includes an “Ultrasonic Misacceleration Mitigation System” which is designed to reduce the chance of front and rear collisions at up to 4 metres should a driver press the accelerator in error when stationary or when travelling at speeds below 10km/h.
Other useful standard features include keyless operation, a rearview camera, head-up display, blind spot monitoring and a tilt and slide panoramic sunroof.
More goodies are the built-in Anti-theft Protection Device, front and rear park distance control and rear view camera.
General manager for marketing at Mitsubishi Motors SA, Jeffrey Allison, captures the subncompact family car’s alluring looks thus: “We believe that the Eclipse Cross continues to offer a great combination of a sleek, sporty design combined with SUV capabilities and the latest round of refinements go a long way in cementing its position as a vehicle that perfectly embodies what the Mitsubishi brand represents.”
Well, it’s the boss talking but you owe it to yourself to put his words to a test. The new Mitsibushi Eclipse Cross is the real deal.
