The Castle Academy SuperStars were in action again on Saturday morning, 24 January playing against the Mamelodi Sundowns Diski Challenge team in a friendly match at Chloorkop.
The Castle SuperStars were not intimidated by Sundowns and showed great character as they came from behind to level the score to 1 – 1 going into the half-time. Christoffer Balie who plays for Northern Cape team, Celtic United scored from a great strike he took on the edge of the box just before the break.
The second half came to light with the Castle SuperStars team putting the Sundowns defence under pressure and getting a couple of good scoring chances.
With Sundowns getting their second goal in the second half, the Castle SuperStars were not demoralised as they continued to push forward, showing great strength when attacking, with the combination of Dawny Makgatho who plays for Buffalo United in Limpopo and
Head coach Pitso Mosimane spoke to the players at the end of the match, encouraging them to keep on working hard.
“Castle Lager is doing a great thing assisting with development in the country, maybe one day we will see one of these players in the national team,” Mosimane said,
For the players, it is an honour to play against a professional team, they hope to use the opportunities afforded to them to their own benefit “firstly to be selected into the 23 man squad is an honour. The opportunities that the Castle Lager football Academy Campaign is giving to us is what we only used to dream about. It is every player’s dream to crack it into the PSL, and playing against these teams motivates us to work harder,” said University of Free State striker, Dylan O’Brian.
