Making women’s health a top priority: Curves sponsors PinkDrive’s breast cancer campaign for the fourth time
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer amongst women worldwide, and a significant issue in South Africa. Curves, Africa’s only ladies-only fitness club, wants to help its members stay healthy in all aspects of their lives, which is why they are sponsoring PinkDrive, a breast cancer awareness and education organisation, for the fourth year in a row. October is breast cancer month and Curves wants all women across South Africa to know the facts about breast cancer, as well as how to detect it and act accordingly.
PinkDrive manages mobile mammography and educational units, that travel nationally, offering medically uninsured women, women’s health services, which include mammography, breast examinations, gynaecology services and breast cancer education. Curves is extremely proud to be involved with this inspirational movement, whose values coincide with that of Curves – to promote and support the health and well-being of women. Since its inception, and with the help of donations from Curves, and corporate South Africa, PinkDrive has provided over 8000 free mammograms, done more than 122 000 clinical breast examinations and educated more than 175 000 people on breast health.
To assist PinkDrive in their campaign, Curves will be reaching out to potential members during the month of October. Ladies who sign up for a Curves membership during the month of October will pay a reduced joining fee of only R200. Curves will donate 50% of each fee to PinkDrive. Women who are serious about their health and want to enjoy a targeted workout in a safe and relaxing ladies-only space can take advantage of the offer and support this excellent cause at the same time. Curves complete wellness programme, which includes fitness, motivational coaching and nutrition advice, is designed to help women kick-start their journey to a happier and healthier life.
According to Amanda Coetsee, spokesperson for Curves, “We are very excited about once again teaming up with PinkDrive. They are as passionate and dedicated to women’s health as we are at Curves and we hope that the money that we raise will help improve the lives of mothers, sisters, daughters and friends throughout South Africa.”
Noelene Kotschan, CEO and Founder of PinkDrive, expressed her excitement about the Curves and PinkDrive partnership. “I believe that women should take responsibility for their health and this is exactly the opportunity that Curves are offering with the 2015 campaign. PinkDrive is proud to be associated with Curves. I would like to thank every club and their members who made considerable contributions in the past and am looking forward to what 2015 will bring” said Noelene.
