Following two successive Ke Yona Team Search Try Outs in Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth, Cape Town played host to the third leg of the 2016 Nedbank Ke Yona Team Search on Monday, 2 May at the Athlone Stadium.
The Western Cape has over the past three years of the Ke Yona Team Search seen players such as Luthando Sixhaso (Kaizer Chiefs) and Sydney Masana (Free State Stars) advancing past the Ke Yona Team to make a name for themselves in South African football. It came as no surprise for the selectors to yet again face a difficult task of having to handpick at least five players from the Western Cape to form part of the 48 players that will head to the Ke Yona Team Bootcamp set to happen later this year at the University of Pretoria’s High Performance Centre.
Football hopefuls came in their numbers from all corners of the Western Cape, braving many circumstances for the opportunity of showcasing their football talent under the watchful eyes of the four Ke Yona Team selectors.
“We are excited with what we have seen so far in this year’s talent search. The Western Cape has always been tough for us wth it’s quick and very skillful players” said Ke Yona Team selector, Khabo Zondo.
Head of Sponsorship and Cause Marketing at Nedbank, Mr Tobie Badenhorst shared Nedbank’s satisfaction with the progress of the Try outs so far.
“As we are edge closer to the final phase of the try-outs, we are delighted with the great interest and talent we have seen to date. At Nedbank, we take pride in providing such platforms and seeing people taking up opportunities that will assist in them investing in their futures. As a bank that is highly involved in the communities that it serves, we will continue providing such enabling platforms for our communities” said Badenhorst.
The Nedbank Ke Yona Team Search will now head to KwaZulu-Natal with try-outs happening at King Zwelithini Stadium. Successful applicants are reminded to bring their Identity Documents when coming to the stadium for the trials.
