Nedbank Ke Yona team graduates Aubrey Modiba and Luthando Sixhaso have both been called up to the South African under 23 national team. Modiba and Sixhaso were unearthed during 2014 from Nedbank’s unique talent search initiative and have since went on to sign with Premier Soccer League (PSL) teams, Mpumalanga Black Aces and Kaizer Chiefs respectively.

This will not be the first time Modiba represents his country. The 21-year-old Limpopo born midfielder was part of Thabo Senong’s under 20 squad that represented South Africa at the 2015 Commonwealth Games as well as the African Youth Championships in Senegal in the same year. “The Postman” as the defender is nicknamed for his pinpoint passing ability has cemented his position in the Mpumalanga Black Aces squad that is four positions behind log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sixhaso on the other hand is steadily making his way up the Kaizer Chiefs senior team. The Cape Town born goal minder has been the number one choice for Chiefs in the PSL’s reserve league where the club finished third.

“Everything started with the Nedbank Ke Yona Team Search. Had it not been for the Nedbank and the four coaches who identified and groomed me to being the complete player that I am, I would not be playing for a big club like Aces and now representing my country” said an elated Modiba.

Nedbank’s Senior Manager for Brand Communications Nkosinathi Msiza wished both Ke Yona team graduates the best of luck and urged them to fly the national flag high.

“The Nedbank Ke Yona team search continues to demonstrate what we do as a business everyday – enable our customers and communities to make the things that really matter happen. We wish the boys all the luck and we encourage them to continue to inspire others to follow their dreams. Trials for the 2016 Ke Yona team will start soon – young men between 18 – 23 years should dial *120*539662# and register,” said Msiza.

The players will be playing at the 18 000 capacity stadium of Estádio Rei Pelé and if they impress, they could form part of Owen Da Gama’s final squad that will represent the country at the 2016 Rio Olympics in August.
