A new physical adventure game sweeping the world, allowing participants to act like Ethan Hunt or James Bond as they solve clues to free themselves from a locked room, has arrived in Johannesburg.
LOSTLAND escape room opened in Rivonia in July, and offers players three different games – Castle Secret, Mission Impossible and Prison Break. Set in fictional locations, from haunted castles to prison cells, each game offers a variety of clues and puzzles which must be solved before players secure their exit.
Suitable for everyone over the age of 12, LOSTLAND requires logical thinking and problem solving and combines both physical and intellectual aspects.
“Escape room games are one of the few places where people of all ages can be together, and enjoy being together without anyone being on their phone or distracted by social media,” said LOSTLAND founder Virginia Shang, who first experienced the thrill of an escape room while on holiday in China. “They are perfect as a team building experience for companies or as a stag party activity.”
Between two and six players are recommended for each game, at a cost of R200 per person.
Shang said games were designed to promote team work and cooperation. “You’re working against the clock and you have to use all of your senses to solve the challenges you face. It’s very exciting.”
Escape rooms had their roots in Asia but have spread to the United States.
“There are more than 40 escape rooms in Los Angeles alone, so we are confident that South Africans will also love the thrill of the game.”
