As we countdown to the 29th edition of the SA Music Awards (SAMA29), one of the biggest nights in local music and entertainment that promises nothing but glitz, glamour and the newness of summer, we are thrilled to announce the International Achievement Award recipients.
We join South Africa in its celebration of multiple momentous achievements with the announcement of Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini and Nomcebo Zikode as our SAMA29 International Achievement honourees. These artists have been models of possibility for South Africa as they have made an outstanding contribution to the global musical stage, flying the South African flag high and joining the African continent in its musical coup d’état.
As SAMA celebrates its home-grown talent, the organisation continues to dedicate itself to promoting the South African music industry as an international leading force and we applaud these artists for being instrumental in the achievement of this mission.
This year’s three remarkable recipients continue to leave an indelible mark in the South African music landscape. Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini and Nomcebo Zikode’s Grammy winning song, Bayethe serves as a universal message, a distinct call to action to the world, inspiring us to lighten our loads, heal and bring peace and happiness during these challenging times.
Bayethe is a remarkable collaboration that transcends borders and touches the hearts of people worldwide. A testament to the universal language music possesses.

Wouter Kellerman: Wouter Kellerman is a South African Grammy Award winning flutist, producer, composer and a 9-time SAMA award recipient. Kellerman’s unique sound has made an instrumental South African contribution to the global contemporary and classical music industry, ranking him on international charts such as the World Music Billboard charts, the ZMR Top 100 International Radio Airplay Chart and the CMJ New World Top 40 Chart to name but a few. With a career spanning over 3 decades, the producer has dedicated his music and influence to positive change as an advocate for social and environmental causes. He has and continues to use his musical talents to address social issues such as, climate change and social justice. A true representative of the power of South African art.
Zakes Bantwini: Zakhele Madida aka Zakes Bantwini is a multi-disciplined and influential South African musical practitioner who hails from the streets of KwaMashu, KZN. With a qualification in Jazz, Music Performance and Business Science, Madida has mastered the art of combining conventional education with raw talent, a true force to be reckoned with. His versatility and dedication to pushing boundaries in the music industry continues to leave an indelible mark on the dance and house genre globally. His fusion of electro, African sounds and South African rhythm is a testament of his musical genius which continues to earn him international acclaim. His dedication to collaboration and sending the elevator down, as his career continues to reach greater heights is symbolic of South Africa’s heritage and philosophy. Madida is South African musical excellence and will be the first local act to headline at a concert at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town with his Abantu concert.
Nomcebo Zikode: Nomcebo Zikode is a South African singer and songwriter who hails from Hammarsdale, KZN. She is a musical storyteller who cemented her voice in the hearts of millions in Master KG’s record breaking single “Jerusalema” which Zikode co-wrote. This South African moment which landed the two at number one on the Billboard Music charts and Apple music charts as well as a remixed version by Burna Boy was a testament for the many years Zikode has worked at perfecting her craft. Her voice is a symbol of hope, love, healing and resilience. Symbols that represent South African art.
