Thousands of music lovers gathered at Huddle Park on Saturday, 1 August, for the inauguralScatterlings Music Festival<\/strong>, marking the successful debut of a new live music experience that celebrated South Africa’s rich musical heritage through the voices of today’s leading artists.<\/p>\n

The festival followed the release of the highly anticipated\u00a0Scatterlings<\/strong>\u00a0album on Friday, 31 July, a collaborative project curated by Jesse Clegg and Msaki that sees some of South Africa’s most celebrated musicians reimagine the iconic songs of Johnny Clegg for a new generation.<\/p>\n

Across one unforgettable day, fans were treated to performances from an extraordinary line-up including\u00a0Zakes Bantwini, Sjava, Sun-El Musician, TRESOR, Msaki, Jesse Clegg, J’Something, MUZI, Simmy, Beatenberg, Sminofu, Zolani Mahola<\/strong>, and more. Alongside performing the reimagined songs featured on the Scatterlings album, each artist also brought their own chart-topping catalogue to the stage, creating a dynamic celebration of South African music that resonated with audiences of all ages.<\/p>\n

The atmosphere throughout the day reflected the spirit of Scatterlings – bringing together artists and fans through music, storytelling and shared experiences. From emotional singalongs to high-energy performances, the festival showcased the diversity, creativity and collaborative spirit that continue to define South Africa’s music industry.<\/p>\n

Released just one day before the festival, the\u00a0Scatterlings<\/strong>\u00a0album provided the soundtrack for the weekend, introducing audiences to fresh interpretations of songs that have long formed part of South Africa’s cultural landscape. Through contemporary arrangements and the unique voices of today’s artists, the project celebrates how timeless music can continue to evolve while finding new meaning with modern audiences.<\/p>\n

More than a festival, Scatterlings became a celebration of South African artistry, with established icons and contemporary stars sharing one stage in a rare collaboration that highlighted the depth and diversity of the country’s music scene.<\/p>\n

The overwhelming audience response to both the album and the inaugural festival signals the arrival of Scatterlings as an exciting new fixture on South Africa’s live music calendar – one that celebrates collaboration, creativity and the unifying power of music.<\/p>\n
