Kgomotso Sharon Raselabe serves as the Provincial Special Projects Convener of the Mpumalanga Schools Netball Committee under South African Schools Netball (SASN). She is actively involved in the PEP mini Netball programme, supporting initiatives that develop young players across schools and communities. Reinforcing initiatives across schools and communities to develop young players through education and sport. Much of her work focuses on the foundation phase, where she believes strong academic and sporting foundations are built.<\/p>\n

Her journey into education was unexpected. While unemployed, she regularly attended meetings at her children’s school. During one of those meetings, a teacher noticed how she engaged with others and encouraged her to step in as a substitute teacher. What began as a temporary opportunity soon became a calling. Through daily interactions with learners, she discovered a passion for helping children grow and develop.<\/p>\n
\n
Her path later led her to Laerskool Malelane in Malelane, Mpumalanga, where former principal Mr. Gerhadus Jansen van Rensburg played a pivotal role in shaping her future. Recognising her potential, he encouraged her to pursue teaching seriously and further her studies. With the support of the school, she was able to continue growing in the profession.<\/p>\n
\n
Over time, education became about far more than the curriculum. For Raselabe, understanding each child, their circumstances, how they learn, and the environment they need to succeed became just as important.\u00a0 Today, much of her work is focused on supporting young learners during their formative years, where she believes a love for learning and sport begins. She pays particular attention to quieter learners and those who may easily be overlooked.<\/p>\n

Through programmes such as PEP mini Netball, she also works with coaches, helping them understand the importance of creating positive early experiences for young players and ensuring children enjoy being part of the game.<\/p>\n
\n
Reflecting on her journey, Raselabe said: \u201cI used to run away from teaching, but the moment I stepped into a classroom I realised this is where I belong. Every day since then has confirmed that working with children is not just a job for me, it is something I was meant to do. I hope that every child I work with feels seen, supported and capable of more than they think they are.\u201d<\/p>\n

A single mother of five, Raselabe continues to further her studies and is specialising in Psychology of Education through her Honours degree, balancing family life with her leadership roles in education and sport development.<\/p>\n
\n
She often says that no matter what is happening in her life, the moment she steps into a classroom or onto a netball court, everything shifts. That is where she feels most herself.<\/p>\n
\n
Looking ahead, she hopes to expand her work in both education and sport, ensuring more young people, especially those who are often overlooked, are given meaningful support and opportunities.<\/p>\n
