Over the past year, eBucks PayDay has become a key rewards feature helping customers stretch their money further at a time when South Africans remain increasingly focused on value. App interactions have grown from 12.7 million interactions on the 15th<\/sup> to 20.7 million, while unique app users on the day increased from 524 000 to over 700 000, highlighting continued growth in engagement.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Bathandwa Mbovane, Head of eBucks Rewards at FNB, says the growth of eBucks PayDay reflects customer resonance in the face of a tough economic climate.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n “When we launched eBucks PayDay a year ago, our ambition was simple: to provide customers with real help at the moment they need it most. As the cost of living continues to put pressure on household budgets, customers are looking for practical ways to make their money work harder. Clicks and Takealot emerged as the most popular PayDay destinations, with combined Spend growing by 30% to over R640 million when comparing 12-month periods. Clicks saw a 7% increase in transactions over the period, with Takealot seeing a massive 39% increase.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Customers are also increasingly leveraging rewards-linked benefits to enhance their purchasing power. At Engen, annual eBucks spend increased 39% to R10.7million with transactions growing by the same percentage to over 26 000.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Online shopping continues to be a major driver of PayDay activity. Superbalist PayDay spend increased by 34% to over R37 million, with transactions growth of 26%. Discounts through the eBucks Partner Shop on eBucks Pay Day hit R18 million, 3 times bigger than Black Friday in 2025.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Mbovane says that as household budgets remain under pressure, customers are becoming more deliberate about where and how they spend.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n “What is particularly encouraging is that we’re seeing customers use eBucks PayDay across a broad range of everyday needs, from fuel and healthcare to groceries, online shopping and lifestyle purchases.
