Inaugural Discover Summit Sets the Stage for Gauteng Film Renaissance

The Gauteng Film Commission (GFC) proudly reflects on the inaugural Discover
Summit, an initiative aimed at nurturing a vibrant ecosystem for both emerging and
established filmmakers. Held at the prestigious Sandton Convention Centre on May
9th and 10th, the event shone the spotlight on the cinematic landscape of Gauteng.
The vision of the Gauteng Film Commission to create an inclusive and dynamic
platform for filmmakers of all caliber’s was realised with the unveiling of the Discover
Summit. Over two transformative days, the event showcased a kaleidoscope of
masterclasses led by industry titans, covering diverse facets of filmmaking including
droning, film scoring, producing, animation, and beyond. These sessions not only
imparted invaluable knowledge but also sparked inspiration and collaboration
amongst attendees.
The event's centrepiece, the dynamic parade that took over the streets of Sandton
CBD, symbolized the celebratory spirit and collective passion driving Gauteng's film
community forward. Welcoming 1000 delegates, the Discover Summit served as a
beacon of opportunity, uniting filmmakers from all walks of life in pursuit of cinematic
excellence.
A highlight of the summit was the vibrant exhibitions curated by film practitioners,
which showcased the myriad opportunities within the industry. From cutting-edge
technologies to innovative storytelling techniques, these exhibits underscored the
rich tapestry of talent and innovation inherent in Gauteng's film community.
The pinnacle of the Discover Summit was the celebratory evening of the Discover
Summit Recognition Merits, where the Gauteng Film Commission honoured the
outstanding contributions of filmmakers. Among the esteemed recipients were:

 Best Emerging Filmmaker: Bheki Ncube
 Best Location Scout: Allan Rheeder
 Best Audience Development Initiative: Fakugesi Film Festival
 Best Marketing and Distribution: Kgosana Monchusi
 Best Soundtrack: Godisamang Khonou
 Best Animation: Kabelo Maaka
 Best Female Filmmaker: Bongiwe Selane
 Best Quality of Film (Storyline, Visual Creativity): Vincent Moloi
 Lifetime Contribution to the Film Industry: Jerry Mofokeng
In expressing gratitude for the summit's success, Keitumetse Lebaka, CEO of the
Gauteng Film Commission, remarked, "We extend our deepest appreciation to our
