Graceland Hotel Casino and Country Club will host young boxers participating in the 2015 Mpumalanga Provincial Boxing Championships taking place on 9 and 10 May. The tournament, organised by Mpumalanga Boxing Organisation, is another local initiative that the resort has pledged its support to, as part of its ongoing commitment to community upliftment in the surrounding areas.
The tournament, featuring boxers from Ubuntu and Kinros/Sasol, as well as other clubs from the Nkomati Region, will start with quarter finals on Saturday, 9 May followed by semi-finals that evening. The boxing spectacle will culminate in the crowning of the champion at the exhilarating finals on Sunday, 10 May.
The tournament will feature ten male and five female weight divisions who will compete for the respective Mpumalanga titles. This year, 63 entries were received from Ehlanzeni, Gert Sibande and Nkangala local municipal districts and will feature highly talented boxers including Wesley Gibson who is currently representing South Africa at the Zone 4 Southern African Sub-Continental Championships. Other former winners taking part include Wisdom Ngwenda and Themba Hlatshwayo.

“We are excited that Graceland Country Club is part of this adrenalin filled initiative. We see our participation in the tournament as a contribution towards empowering the community, and an ongoing commitment to the development of boxing in the province,” said Clix Salman, the resort’s Marketing Manager. “Graceland will also cater for the boxers on the day, and will also sponsor the medals for the winners. We hope the success of this tournament will be a solid foundation for us to continue to work together with the Mpumalanga Boxing Organisation,” he concluded.
