With South Africa having recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of June 16, the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz gears up to embark on Geleza Kleva and Learn – an intensive three-day music industry development project which is aimed at budding young musicians. Through this initiative, the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz hopes to equip aspirant youth with guidelines on how to hone their musical talents while also building solid business acumen.
Geleza Kleva is a series of music industry workshops and masterclasses for young people and community members who have an interest in music. Renowned musician and educator, Concorde Nkabinde will help facilitate this second chapter of the Road to Standard Bank Joy of Jazz build up.
Learners will receive advice as well as be exposed to various music disciplines i.e. song writing, music composition, arrangement, playing music communally (bands and choirs), live performances, marketing their music, organising and managing musical events, and the business of music.

This impact has been evident in inspirational projects such as Geleza Kleva”, commented Hazel Chimhandamba, head of Group Sponsorships at Standard Bank.
Youth in three districts of Johannesburg, Diepsloot and Soweto (Chiawelo and Diepkloof) will be tutored by industry heavy weights such as Sibongile Khumalo and Judith Sephuma, who will share their all-round knowledge and skill, while Ernie Smith and Nomfundo Xaluva unpack the skill of song writing, to mention a few.

“To ensure that Johannesburg maintains its musical leadership role on the continent and grows to be a real global artistic powerhouse, we have to invest in our youth and we are happy that through major events in our city, we can bring value that will have future benefits”, added City of Johannesburg Head of Department of Community Development, Dudu Maseko.
Dextrous show promoter, Mandisa Bardill, will be joined by Mantwa Chinoamadi and will collectively share their insight on organising a music event in any scope.
“It is through a deliberate effort to develop our youth that in years to come will we reap a bountiful harvest of musical greats. We are delighted to have artistic luminaries, government and institutional support to make this programme a reality”, concluded Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Executive Producer, Mantwa Chinoamadi.
All Geleza Kleva sessions will run from 08:00 to 15:00 and dates and venues are as follows;
