Engen, South Africa’s leading petroleum brand*, and their football partner
SuperSport United continued with their commitment to youth development on Thursday,
13 October 2016 with a visit to the Umlazi Comtech High School in Durban to conduct
coaching clinics and hand over much needed football kit and equipment.
Matsatsantsa ambassadors and local football legend’s Jabu Mahlangu and Thabo
September, led a delegation of SuperSport United coaches headed by the club’s
current under-17 coach and former Bafana Bafana star, Ricardo Katza during the visit
to the school.
The pupils of Umlazi Comtech High School burst into song as Mahlangu lead the
SuperSport United contingent and Engen representatives into the school hall.
Mahlangu addressed more than 800 pupils in attendance, encouraging them to apply
themselves both academically and on the sports field, and to pursue their dreams
with enthusiasm.
After handing over much needed sports equipment, the SuperSport United coaches made
their way to the sports field to conduct coaching clinics for the school’s football
players.
Brad Bergh, Engen’s Group Sponsorship Manager, said the visit to the school
underlines Engen’s commitment to inspire the youth of Umlazi to excel on and off the
field of play.
“We believe that by inspiring these young people to believe in themselves, to excel
both academically and in the sports arena, we are in a small way helping shape the
lives of the next generation.”
Bergh said coaching clinics also provide a platform for many young aspiring football
players to improve their skill set, so that one day they may grace the playing
fields of the PSL.
“Engen cares about the communities in which it operates and strongly believes in the
power of football to uplift and inspire the youth of Umlazi,” added Bergh.
