Dino Batista, Johannesburg grown mixologist took the coveted crown at the World Class Johannesburg regional finals which took place at Diageo headquarters in Waterfall, Midrand. Dino is the first contestant from the regional finals to go through to the national finals were he will contend for the opportunity to represent South African at the World Class Global Championships in Mexico later this year.
The competition was challenging, yet Dino stunned the judges with his outstanding passion, flair and amazing tasting cocktails. He faced two stimulating rounds , the first being a “one in one out “challenge where contestants had been set out to mix up a drink that contained both inner and outer segments of the ingredients. And the second being a “side table ritual” in which contestants had to recreate rituals and traditions by preparing a cocktail containing wine. Dino was judged on his bartending technique, presentation, personality, and creativity, expression of spirits & taste of flavor. He will now go onto the final South African leg of the competition where we will find out who will be crowned South Africa’s best bartender for 2017.The national final competition will take place from the 24 – 26 April 2017.
