South African coaching development was given a major boost this past week when Coca-Cola hosted the COPA Coca-Cola Coaching Education Programme workshops together with SASFA.
The initiative, a partnership between COPA Coca-Cola, SASFA, the national soccer body – SAFA and the Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB) gave 30 budding grassroots football coaches the indispensable SAFA D-Level coaching course.
With 2015 being the first running of the COPA Coca-Cola Coaching Education Programme, a sample selection of coaches were chosen from the Gauteng region to take part after having progressed their teams from the 2015 COPA Coca-Cola Regional Playoffs to the COPA Coca-Cola Provincial Finals in Gauteng.
The coaching workshops were conducted over a 5-Day period by one of the KNVB’s best football instructors, Nico Lanbohn together with Whitey Tshowa from SAFA. The programme was designed with the aim of furthering the development of youth football in South Africa by equipping grassroots coaches with essential coaching skills.
The COPA Coca-Cola Coaching Education Programme is a COPA Coca-Cola and SASFA initiative and is a first of its kind for the COPA Coca-Cola program. It comes at a crucial time in the transition of South African football with SAFA’s vision of accrediting at least 10 000 coaches per year in full swing.
COPA Coca-Cola is a schools football initiative that has been running under the auspices of the South African Football Association for the past eight years.
