Carling Black Label’s partnership with the South African Football Association in the football development space is continuing to pay dividends. Mainstay United FC, under the able stewardship of Coach the Coach graduate Galiel Panuel, has won promotion to the ABC Motsepe league where their next goal will be the National First Division.
The 54-year-old coach from Upington also recently steered his team to this year’s Nedbank Cup round of 32, where eventual runners up Ajax Cape Town knocked them out. The Nedbank Cup appears to have been just a stepping-stone for the coach as his newly acquired coaching skills rubbed off his team.
The Carling Black Label Coach the Coaches programmed which is conducted by highly qualified SAFA coaching instructors has seen more than 150 coaches obtaining the latest coaching methods, accompanied by a SAFA C-Level coaching qualification upon completion.

In November last year, Carling Black Label and SAFA held the third edition of the Coach the Coaches programme and the end results have been phenomenal for the graduates. Panuel was part of the 58 coaches selected from the SAB League, which is the largest senior football development league in the country, that play in all 52 SAFA regions, as well as six finalists of the Carling League of Champions.

“This is not just an achievement for me as a coach but what is most fulfilling for me is that our community will be represented in such a great league. I feel empowered as a coach and sincere thanks to Carling Black Label and SAFA for an informative coaching programme that has led to my team qualifying for the ABC Motsepe League,” said the 53-year-old coach.

Carling Black Label’s General Manager, Mr. Vijay Govindsamy lauded the progress of the coach, saying that it is in line with Carling Black Label goal to give men the opportunity to feel like champions and make a difference in their communities.

“We are honoured to have played such an important role that not only has contributed to the coach, but also his team and community. We are proud to have yet again produced a champion coach that will lead by example in his community. We wish him and his team all the best in the ABC Motsepe League next season” said Carling Black Label Cup General Manager, Mr.Vijay Govindsamy.
