Celebrity teams came head-to-head, cooking up a storm and entertaining the crowd at the annual White Star Celebrity Cook-off 2014, which took place at Greenway Resort in Nelspruit on Saturday, 6th September 2014. Amongst the competing celebrities were soapie stars Nolly Meje from Isidingo, Mapaseka Koetle from Scandal, Lolo Mphephi from Isibaya, Masego Sehole from 7de Laan, Pallance Dladla from Rhythm City as well as comedian Chris Mapane and musicians Wanda Baloyi and Nothende. Last year’s winners Musa, Akhumzi Jele and Sipho Masebe were also there to defend their title. “Last year’s event was highly successful, we aimed to do better this year. We invited various celebrities and members of the media to this cooking challenge and the response has been phenomenal. Participants were assigned to groups, each group had to prepare a two-course meal using two minute cooking, White Star Quick. Only one team could walk away as the winners and after battling it out, Team Senza k’phela (featuring Motlatsi Mafatshe, Manaka Ranaka, Mududzi Mabaso and Masego Sehole) came out on top – serving up the best two course meal of the day, they wowed the judges with their innovative White Star Quick pap sushi starter” says White Star Marketing Manager, Mokhele Makhothi. MC for the event and comedian Skhumba announced the decision after judges Lucia Mthiyane (celebrity chef) and Mokgadi Itsweng (True Love food editor) grappled with the difficult decision. After the announcement – when both the pressure and chef coats were off – DJ Kenny Nkwashu from Radio 2000 entertained the crowd, keeping the energy at an all-time high with old and new school tracks. The third annual White Star celebrity cook-off saw competing celebrities being divided into teams. These teams were then allocated a cooking station and given a mystery basket of ingredients which they had to use together with White Star Quick to prepare both a delicious starter and mouth-watering main meal in two hours. Makhothi says, “Demonstrating the versatility and convenience of White Star Quick, which only takes two minutes to cook, the celebrities showed off their cooking skills, creativity and personalities to impress the judges. However, the biggest winner is Home of Hope in Kensington, Johannesburg, which was Home of Hope-9 awarded a donation of R20 000 on Tuesday, 9 September 2014”.
