The White Star Celebrity Cook-Off event has become a highlight on the social calendar for many celebrities and media since its inception in 2012, with requests pouring in from those wanting to take part in this fun-filled, heart-racing event.
White Star, took the Celebrity Cook-Off event to Nelspruit on the 19th of September. Celebrities like Manaka Ranaka, Mdu Mabaso, Motlatsi Mafatshe, Atandwa Kani and Vusi Kunene were amongst our favourites that revealed their skills in the kitchen. Teams, made up of both media and celebrities, were selected at random and had to come up with their unique team names.
With a basket of mystery basket ingredients and White Star Quick; they needed to prepare both a delicious starter and a mouth-watering main course in just two hours. To add extra pressure, judges – celebrity chef Lucia Mthiyane, food blogger Thulisa Gogela and actress Mapaseka Koetle – were watching their every move.
Vusi Kunene, Thato Molamu, MaBlerh and Noluthando Meje of team “The Michelin Stars” impressed the judges the most, with their starter, “Pap duck served with chocolate” and “Sweet & sour crispy duck served with flavoured pap and egg stuffing” as their main dish.
The winning team received a luxury cruise from Durban to Portuguese Island in Mozambique with their partners. Other mouth-watering prizes on offer included Go Pro cameras, instant cameras and accompanying film packs, as well as vouchers.
The White Star team kept the action going, comedian and MC for the day, Skhumba had everyone in stiches with his funny jokes, while DJ Kenny Nkwashu had the crowd dancing with some classic beats.
“This is one of our favourite events of the year as it allows us to show our VIP guests a good time over the weekend, while demonstrating the versatility and convenience of White Star Quick. We loved watching the participants show off their cooking skills, creativity and personalities and having a genuinely fun time with the brand and with each other,” concludes White Star’s Marketing Manager, Mokhele Makhothi.
