In line with Capitec Banks’s continued commitment to the development of maths and science in underprivileged communities around South Africa, their Soweto branch handed over R 48 610 worth of maths and science equipment at Mokgome High School. The funds for the resource equipment are derived from the successful Soweto Color Run event that took place in 2016.
Attendees of the ceremony were hosted by school principal Ms M.C Mphahlele who was joined by Rendani Mudau, the Regional Manager of Capitec Bank and Alouis Matekenya, representing Adopt-A-School Foundation. Guests were entertained by a special cultural performance by the learners and witnessed the unveiling of the new equipment. “Capitec Bank is proud to support Mokgome High School, not only because of our commitment to invest in the human capital of this country, but also because of the dedicated teachers and management identified at Mokgome. We believe they deserve all the help and support they can get in order to continue doing what they do best,” says Sbusiso Kumalo, Head of Product Marketing at Capitec Bank.
“We are very pleased with the support we are receiving from Capitec Bank. We are a quintile three school meaning we receive minimal subsidies from the government and we are therefore dependent on donations,” says Mphahlele.

Mokgome High School is situated in Meadowlands, Soweto in a community characterized by poverty as well as alcohol abuse and pregnancy amongst the youth. The school provides education facilities to 804learners from the community and is governed by an excellent management team that is effective and proactive.

Capitec Bank, headline sponsor of The Color Run, partnered up with Adopt-A-School as part of their CSI programme. R10 of each ticket sold for The Color Run is donated by Capitec Bank to a selected school in the area where The Color Run was staged. Not only did Capitec Bank and The Color Run bring joy to the participants in this fun run event but also new opportunities and hopes for better education to the learners at Mokgome High School.
