After a successful conclusion of Season 2 of the Betway 12th Man program, the participants have started the new year off with a bang!
The 3rd place winner of the Betway 12th Man Business Innovation Series, Benson Mhlongo was appointed as Cape Town Spurs new Assistant Coach. A former player for Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, Mhlongo won two league titles with both clubs, showcasing his expertise and leadership on the field. He will now lend that experience to help guide Cape Town Spurs alongside Head Coach Ernst Middendorp.
Mhlongo’s appointment comes shortly after he was appointed as the Coordinator and Player Development Manager at the South African Football Players Union (SAFPU) in October 2024. He is now ready to embrace this new opportunity with Cape Town Spurs and contribute to the growth of the club.

Nice Guys Management is committed to offering self-defense classes to girls in underserved communities, where Dino and Hekkie teach essential techniques to help these young women escape dangerous situations. Their mission is to provide not only physical empowerment but also the confidence to protect themselves in real-life situations.
In addition to their work in self-defence, Nice Guys Management is dedicated to supporting and managing both mixed martial artists and boxers. The company provides mentorship, career guidance, and professional support, aiming to help athletes navigate and excel in their careers both in and out of the ring.
The winner of the Betway 12th Man Business Innovation Series, Nontle Gwavu is dedicated to empowering youth and creating opportunities for individuals who may not have had access to them before.
A key focus of Nontle’s mission is Kasi Development, where she aims to provide a platform for underprivileged girls. Nontle is passionate about helping talented young girls by offering scholarships through universities, ensuring that they have the chance to pursue higher education and unlock their full potential.
One of the participants, Janine Van Wyk, has recently completed her CAF B License and UEFA B License, positioning herself as a well-rounded coach ready to take the reins at JVW Blue Diamonds.
With years of experience both as a mentor and a player, Van Wyk is deeply committed to the development of the sport. She’s excited to lead her team into the Hollywood Bets League and is passionate about nurturing talent while inspiring the next generation of footballers.
Known for her leadership on and off the field, Janine Van Wyk has already built a remarkable legacy as a player. Now, as a coach, she is ready to add another chapter to her career, continuing to shape the future of women’s football in South Africa.
Former professional footballer Benedict “Tso” Vilakazi has stepped into a new chapter of his career as the head coach of Prestige Academy. In his new role, Benedict will oversee all the academy’s teams, ensuring that players are equipped with the essential skills and knowledge needed to pursue successful football careers in the future.
Netball protea’s star Phumza Maweni, has returned to a place where she is very familiar. South African netball announced that Phumza will serve as the assistant coach for the baby Proteas. Phumza, alongside head Coach Precious Mthembu lead the Baby Proteas to secure a spot in the 2025 Netball World Cup in Gibraltar
Former cricketer Mangaliso Mosehle was initially quiet and reserved when he joined the Betway 12th Man program. However, as the workshops progressed, Mangi began to build confidence in both himself and the business world, eagerly seizing every opportunity that came his way.
Since then, Mangi has launched his own wicketkeeping academy, Born to Catch. His first academy session, powered by DJ Coaching, will take place in Johannesburg this March, shortly after his participation in the Titans vs Legends Cricket match at SuperSport Park in Centurion.
