Bestmed Medical Scheme has once again extended a helping hand to the Pretoria-based Louis Botha and Jacaranda Children’s Homes in honour of Mandela Day on Friday, 18 July 2025. This marks the second consecutive year that Bestmed has supported these two homes, which together care for over 200 children between the ages of three and eighteen.

As part of the organisation’s corporate social initiatives, Bestmed’s employees donated several essential goods, including non-perishable food, toiletries, clothes, blankets, toys, and arts and crafts supplies, which were handed over on the day. Making the day extra especial, a few volunteer Bestmed employees dedicated their 67 minutes, preparing boerewors rolls for the children and staff – bringing smiles and a sense of community to everyone present.

Beyond the employee contributions, Bestmed has also pledged an additional monetary donation toward essential supplies to help further meet the needs of the homes. “We know how important it is to foster an environment that is safe, loving and empowering for children, as it has an impact on their growth,” says Karen Pienaar, Sponsorship and CSI Specialist at Bestmed. “Our initiative is not just about giving back for this one day, but about sowing seeds of hope and dignity in the lives of those who need it most – which we know will grow into something big one day.”
