As we edge closer to the upcoming inaugural Cultural and Creative Industry Awards (CCIA’s), “Recognising the brightest stars”, the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, through the leadership of Minister Zizi Kodwa calls on the public to vote for their best creative in the People’s Choice category.
Exactly a week since the official announcement of nominees on the 18th of March in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation; South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and other key partners, the department now turns the spotlight on the People Choice categories. Under these categories, the public can vote for their brightest star in the Best Newcomer Award and Best Online Content Creator Award categories.
1.The nominees for the Best Newcomer Award are:
Tyla – (A recent grammy award-winning South African artist with a hit song ‘Water’ which broke the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart making her the highest-charting African female solo act of all time)
Lebo Malope – (Hailing from Elandskraal in Limpopo, the young South African model has come a long way from home, walking on international runways for renowned brands such as Louis Vuitton)
Gatsheni – (The Maskandi musician based in KwaZulu Natal has taken the radio waves, TVs, and the country by storm with his household music, reaching the most remote audiences)
2.The nominees for the Best Online Content Creator Award include:
Podcast and Chill with MacG – (Mc G podcast and Chill has contributed significantly to the understanding of the creative industries attracting millions of audiences.)
Lasizwe – (Comedian, fashionista, and dancer – meet Lasizwe, one of South Africa’s favourite TikTok stars with millions of millions of followers).
Wian – (Snapping up first place out of the top 20 South African TikTokers, Wian is a 27-year-old magician who has taken the social media world by storm.)
Boity Thulo – (Boity is a South African television personality, rapper, actress and entrepreneur with mega following on social media.)
Siyabunny – (She is an online Fashion, Beauty, Lifestyle, Travel phenomenon mostly loved by fashion, food, and travel junkies)
Chad Jones – (Chad Jones, is a South African TikTok star with over one million followers.)
Zimasa Vabaza – (More commonly known as @mooshtaffa on the socials, Zimasa creates content on socio-economic subjects matters)
Members of the public can participate in the awards by visiting www.cciawards.co.za to vote for their Best Newcomer and Best Online Content Creator. The public have until Friday, the 29th of March 2024 at 23h59 (midnight) to vote for their favourite.
“I am pleased that provision has been made to allow the nation to participate in submitting nominations for the People’s Choice categories. This gives even greater meaning to the Cultural and Creative Industry Awards representing the length and breadth of South Africa. I encourage South Africans to vote and make their voices heard in these historic, all-encompassing awards,” stated Minister Zizi Kodwa.
