The Orbit Anniversary Festival – #The4thMovement

2018 marks four years of The Orbit’s existence. As has become tradi-tion, this fourth birthday will be celebrated with The Orbit Anniversary Festival from 13thto 18thMarch. During this week,The Orbit will be the center of attraction, as some of the country’s most gifted musiciansand arts revelers flock to the venue to celebrate the growth of South Africa’s jazz culture.

The Orbit Anniversary Festival is truly a coming of age celebration like no other and, this time around, we bring you #The4thMovement.

Thisanniversary conventionally signifies stability and coming full circle and #The4thMovement at The Orbit will be reminiscent of the excitement when the jazz journey first started.

#The4thMovement will be bringing big sound with some of the bigger bands in jazz. Celebrating with us will be the legendary SibongileKhumalo, TheBlue Notes Tribute Orkestra, TlaleMakhene’sSwazi Gold, Steve Dyer’s Mantswe a Marabi, and LuyandaMadope’sConnecting Generations.

Extra special about The Orbit Anniversary Festival 2018 will be the reunion of the le-gendary VOICE after almost tenyears since they last performed together. This iconic quintet consists of some of South Africa’s most seasoned musicians such as Andi-leYenana, Marcus Wyatt, Sidney Mnisi, Herbie Tsoaeli, andMoraboMorajele.

This year’s festival will also be the first time a brand new band,Trio Grande, will be presented to South Africa. The trio is a coming together of key figures in South African music; FeyaFaku, Paul Hanmer, and Louis Mhlanga. #The4thMovement will be closed off on Sunday, 18 March in jazz tradition with a free jam session led by award-winning pianist and producer, LuyandaMadope.

As always, the musical feast will happen at The Home of Jazz – The Orbit – with a meeting of the minds between artists and appreciators of the arts who will descend on Braamfontein to celebrate #The4thMovement.
