Following the successful local tournament in 2018, this year, former Banyana
Banyana captain, Portia Modise, will lead the search for the two talented
girls in Alexandra. An Allianz representative and an independent legal
expert will be part of the selection panel.
The camp has received close to 500 000 applications since inception from
around the world and over 500 explorers from 30 countries have been
fortunate to be part of it, including Tebatso Leshata Sekoaleng
from Alexandra who was the first teenager to
represent South Africa last year. He is now part of the Highlands Park
Football Club junior team and an inspiration to teenagers at his school and
his community.
“As AGCS Africa, we are thrilled to enable two talented girls to become
captains of the future through the Allianz Explorer Camp | Football Edition.
Our purpose is to develop the next generation of leaders through an
environment, which enables them to learn, explore and collaborate with each
other. The camp will explore and unpack the three topics: dreams, courage
and purpose, on and off the pitch to support the participant’s development
to lead in the future. At the end of the camp the participants will
contribute their learnings at the Explorer Series event in Munich and within
their community,” says AGCS Africa CEO Thusang Mahlangu.
The players will be scouted at a 5-a-side schools tournament which will be
held at Three Square Sports Grounds, Alexandra on May 31, 2019. Learners
from Minerva, Realogile, Kwabhekilanga, Alexandra and Eastbank High, as well
as Pholosho Junior Primary schools will be competing for the two spots. The
ultimate winners will be selected based on their dreams, courage and purpose
on and off the pitch.
